Best New Play of 2010
October 08 2010
We’re thrilled to announce that Twilight of the Gods has received this recognition from the Nashville Scene in its annual “Best of Nashville” issue.
To a struggling writer, getting attention from the Nashville Scene - Music City’s artsy, alternative weekly - is the first step to moving out of the tenement halls of obscurity. And to get the Best New Play nod… well, that’s pretty gratifying.
Wes and I want to thank our stellar cast and crew. Their talent and commitment showed every single performance - perhaps exemplified by Patrick Kramer’s mesmerizing abuse of his vocal chords as he feigned death-by-allergy night after night from accidental exposure to nutmeg. Yes, nutmeg.
More than that, this was a great theater family. We could not have wished a better start for Blackbird.
And a special debt of gratitude is owed to Lipscomb University’s Department of Theatre for their partnership - starting with Dr. Larry Brown who give us our first stage to fill in the 90s, and now with department chair Mike Fernandez who placed a tremendous amount of trust in us when he invited us to “get together and dream.” Crazy people over there at Lipscomb these days.
On a more personal note, thanks to our wives Chelle and Michelle, and our collective brood - five children under the age of nine - whose patience and understanding is letting us build ourselves into the guys they might be proud of.
What’s next? Arcadia, baby. When folks refer to a play as a “work of theater”, I’m pretty sure that started with Arcadia. The show that’s as intimidating as it is rewarding. Auditions are coming up in November.
In the meantime, arts donors, corporate sponsors, and all manner of philanthropists - line up. We are now accepting.
